I 'think' you should just build one contrib as you always have.  This will
make the contrib work for all SME releases.

AFAIK, issuing the same events/actions on SME 5.6 should not pose any
problem yet will make your contrib backwards compatible.  Removing those
same events/actions would mean you would have to build two contribs.  Extra
work that I do not 'think' is necessary.

Just my thoughts.  Maybe others will confirm/deny the above.
