I too have ponderd the how to utilize the unused disc space on the workstations on even the smallest network. Heck, laptops are shipping with 80gig drives now.
I am not very good at programming but would like to carry out any tasks or testing that would be needed. What I had thought about is similar to the Grid or Distributed computing concept coupled with a Crawler or Bot similar to search engines. The "Storage Bot" would discover the net attached devices and ultimately create a protected partition on each eligible device that would become a large storage pool or fault tolerant virtual disc. Anyway, I look forward to seeing what comes of the backup idea hopefully lending a helping hand Steve Lewis Fayetteville, AR, US -- -- Please report bugs to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Please mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] (only) to discuss security issues Support for registered customers and partners to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Searchable archive at http://www.mail-archive.com/devinfo%40lists.e-smith.org
