You are right, the license has changed. Way back when we were e-smith and I was doing all the documentation, we put the manual under the GNU FDL because we thought it was appropriate at the time to do so. We only had the single manual and the single product, so the choice wasn't difficult. When the Mitel Customer Documentation group took over the docs (for 5.1.x), they maintained the licensing and file formats while they were coming up to speed on both our product and also the XML processing required to generate the documents. With release 5.6, we started the process of re-organizing the documentation to make it more consistent with other Mitel products. Instead of a single "User Guide" there is now a "Technician's Handbook" that is focused on the installation and initial setup/configuration and an "Administrator's Guide" which focuses on daily/ongoing administration. As we continue with releases ahead, the content will be changed and tweaked even more. As the group re-did the 5.6 manual, they also decided to change the license to bring it inline with the docs for all other Mitel products so that they are consistent across all product lines. It is now the standard copyright and no license to republish that you will find with pretty much all corporations out there. Note that the license on the 5.5 manual has not changed, so that text is still available and, subject to the GFDL, could be updated if desired. > If the status of the licence has > changed, what about the translation in other language and the translations > mailing list ? I thought the translations mailing list was primarily focused on translation of the *software* and there is no impact on that by this change. You are correct, though, that there is an impact on translations of the post-5.5 documentation. I'll have to look into it, but I'm sure something can be arranged. Please e-mail me directly if you wish to translate the documentation into another language (or are already doing so).
