On a related note, has anyone tried exchange4linux
(http://sourceforge.net/projects/exchange4linux/)?

"""
exchange4linux is a production/stable server solution to store/exchange
workgroup data on Linux in a style simular to Exchange. Main goal is to
provide Outlook users a free and open server alternative on Linux. Please
check also www.exchange4linux.org
"""

It is fully GPL, and written in Python. It says it is stable, but I have no
idea just how stable it really is, since I've not tried it. (Ran across it
by mistake just a few days ago.)

Anyway, I thought this might interest some people here.

Cheers,

Rasjid.
