That's not good news...

Being more a PHP than a perl programmer (but having worked with perl) I can see potential to (at some stage down the line ( eg when migrating to a new base distro)) to look at considering PHP with a MySQL DB as apposed to CGI and a Flat file.
I have found php is a lot easier to work with than perl... I think it may be a better option, especially for new people to write contribs, anyone with reasonable html knowledge can pick up php quite quickly. Not to mention the fact that it would be easier to view edit and or add info to a Mysql DB (you could use something like phpmyadmin if you had to!).


Now I'm probably going to get the negative views of security and how long it would take to redo?
Thats not the an area we need to get into just yet, whatever we end up changing to, its going to generate a lot of work at some stage and there are always other issues.
Its just something to consider and discuss.
PHP development isn't that hard to do and I'm happy to help out in this area if it becomes more of an option.
