That sounds pretty reasonable to me. Although personally I'd like to
see GenerateCHK, GenerateSVKPair, and friends more easily available
without being tied to the node, in the eventual future.

I'd definitely be interested in seeing this for my FCP library, though,
it's something that would be nice to see in apps.

I don't think, healthy freenet or not, that FMB could do much of
anything without bundling of other peoples' messages. Although at least
I haven't seen such a big mess on the announcement channel today.
