As you probably know Mozilla limits the number of connections it opens to a single server:port. So when loading a freesite with many components (TFE is a good example) all other connections are stalled until this freesite is loaded.
Raising Mozilla's network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server setting helps, but only a little. Until recently one could still view nodeinfo during this time, since it was running on another port. Unfortunately, now that this is no longer true we have to wait here, too. nodestatus is still there, of course. Just something to ponder ...
