I have set my Win98 1.33GHz AMD 256MB RAM node up with the following
major variations from defaults:
outputBandwidthLimit=8000
inputBandwidthLimit=80000
maxNodeConnections=40
rtMaxNodes=100
rtMaxRefs=100
transient=false
storeSize=1048576000
ipaddress and port match open ports on software-based "tiny personal
firewall". Connections inbound and outbound to freenet seem to work
fine, and I can get many of the livelink images on TFE. Several
freesites are readily accessible.
Also running: Privoxy "web-ad blocker and kitchen sink" on
localhost:8118. Mozilla build 2002102814
The problem:
After running freenet for a while, it appears that all of my bandwidth
(internal loopback and external ADSL) is taken up by freenet. It
usually requires several reloads before mozilla can contact the privoxy
proxy, and privoxy also has trouble contacting the rest of the web. I
understand that load-balancing is a good idea, but maybe it's too
aggressive, since it appears to loadbalance my machine off the rest of
the net.
