GIF is proprietary IP and the owners of it can change licensing on particular use whenever they want. PNG is open-standard with no known IP issues. The question is if Freenet developers want to play hide'n'seek with GIF or use something clearly free of any conflicts.

Those who donated to us did not donate to the "Burn All Gifs" project.
And some of us might donate to "Burn All Gifs" project but not on projects using GIF's..
