People who donate should get a credit in the Freenet source as well as on
the website. After all, we are supporting the internet of the future but we
get little or nothing immediate in return. Recognition would be something
immediate.

----------

Donations have been going well, our Paypal balance is currently
around $1,500 and we still have a month to-go before Matthew's 2 months
is up - hopefully he will be willing to continue the relationship if he
can.

The problem is that donations are irregular, and it is difficult to have
any certainty over our ongoing ability to keep someone employed.

One way to address this is to encourage people to "subscribe" - Paypal
supports automatic monthly payments. If enough people sign up for this,
we can virtually guarantee a certain monthly income from donations, and
it will be cumulative as more people sign up. We only need 250 people
to sign up for $10/month for us to sustain Matthew, or whoever follows
him, indefinitely (although I think soon we might need to consider
upping the wages to $3,000 for two months).

Many people have been prodding me about reinstating the mechanism we
used to have which gave a running total of donations as we got them. I
got rid of this after the move to TWiki, as it was all done using PHP
and doing it in TWiki was a completely different proposition. Perhaps
if we do this, we could put some effort into getting that kind of
functionality (or something better) again.

Thoughts?

Ian.
