its not universally better to use a hardcoded datespecific link, its 
just clumbsily worded.  perhaps it should be closer to somthing like: 
"this site could not be found, though there may be an older verion of 
the link available here:"

Well, if one type of link is clearly better than the other, then only 
that one should be provided I guess.
