I run two freenet nodes, one of which is moderately heavily loaded, on
an Athlon XP 1700+ attached to a cablemodem. They dominate my loadavg.
Recently I have noticed that I am having extremely high "system" % in
"top". I checked it out... first, DMA wasn't working, but that is fixed
now. Then I heard that top may be miscalculating system time... after
some research I found the wonderful utility "vmstat". Running vmstat 10
gets something like the attached. Note the "sy" column under the "cpu"
heading. Can anyone else reproduce this or is it a local problem? Does
anyone have any ideas as to why freenet causes linux to use such a large
amount of "system" (i.e. kernel) time? Would reschedules count as system
time?

BTW, this is with Sun 1.4, using native threads.
