And remember that the Freenet bandwidth options are measured in bytes per second, not bits per second as most other such systems use.
Oops. Okay, it was me after all. Did some additional tests and indeed the parameters have an effect if given sane values :-)
Still some clean-up and additional documentation in freenet.conf may clarify things for newbies. Ian did some suggestions to this end a while ago, see attached email.
I'm willing to edit the file, but would need input from some of the experts to know what options have become obsolete. And I will for sure have tons of questions on the details of the various options.
1) Does this sound like a useful exercise for me to do? 2) Any volunteers for the expert role?

--- Begin Message ---I will answer what I can:> 1. What is "storeType" used for? I ask because the default config says > "put 'native' or 'convert'", but the default seems to be "freenet" (which > means what, exactly?). I'm guessing 'freenet' is the same as 'native' (in > which case why isn't the default 'convert' ?). Is there any mileage in > allowing the user to change this setting, and is it dangerous? Basically this setting was only really useful during the transition to the native datastore - we can probably remove it. > 2. What are adminPeer and adminPassword, are they still relevant, and do > they work? What is 'administrative access' ? (I don't see anything > stopping an unauthenticated user simply changing the conf file and > restarting freenet) These were never used - they can be removed too. > 3. Is changing storeCipherName or storeCipherWidth on an established node > dangerous, useful, or neither? Would the node be lobotomised or would the > datastore be re-encrypted? I suspect this only applies to the old datastore, not the native datastore we use now - Matthew? > 10. What does defaultResetProbability do? It is the initial probability used to determine whether a node will reset the DataSource in a DataReply message to itself. Nobody except core developers would ever want to change this.
