Looks like we can go back to the original system where-by the installer
only downloads the JRE on-demand (I will refrain from the "I told you
so!"). Can whoever switched over to the current two-installer scheme
please put it back the way it was?

Thanks,

Ian.

Ian,

Sorry for the delay in responding to you, I needed to check with legal,
and also with Julie in particular since she had already spoken to you.

We do have a requirement, when distributing the JRE, to bundle it with
your own software, in this case freenet. There is nothing in our
requirements that should prevent you from having a "smart" installer,
that installs the JRE only if the user needs it, so long as the JRE is
never installed without also installing the freenet software. Julie
understood that your earlier installer might install just the JRE from
your site without the freenet software, and this was the problem she was
concerned about.

Alternatively, your installer could point people to the java.com or
java.sun.com websites for the download of the JRE if it detected a need
for a JRE. In that case there would be no requirement on you to ensure
bundling of your own software, since they would be getting the software
directly from Sun. We have a new banner program you can host on your
website to point people to java.com for the latest version, if that's of
any interest.

Hopefully, one of these solutions is workable for you. If you have any
further questions, please let me know how I can help.

Carla
