Well, the difference is, if you use C-a SPACE TAB C-n C-x, then
all leading blanks are changed to tabs.  I was going to do that,
but realized that I really don't want to change spaces to tabs
because that destroys the annotation of who last changed the line.

But yes, your sequence is better.  I used to know the C-M-\, but
had forgotten what it was, and it's not on any of the menus.

Also, Brandon wanted to know how to get emacs compatible 
indentation, since his IDE seems to reindent things differently,
if for instance he changed something then put it back.

One way is to run emacs on the file before committing.
