Well, how much of this is the built in freenet slowness, and how much of it is the browser being configured wrong? The infamous can't load more than one site at once bug... Also, Freenet rejects (well, queues, and dumps if the queue gets too long) HTTP requests if it is serving too many already, because fproxy etc are not NIO'd.
