I think you're jumping ahead a little too quick. We haven't even seen the potential of QR backoff yet because we haven't upped lastGoodBuild and lots of queries *seem* (Ken?) to be coming from older nodes. That in itself should reduce the number of QRs dramatically. Let's give it a chance.
Martin, I am just as eager as you to examine this further! I'm still working on adding in this measurement - it looks like building the chart will take longer than counting the data... but I am encouraged by what progress I have made so far - I'm still trying to comprehend the code I'm reading, let alone writing !! So it's on the way.
