I'm all for decreasing the max chunk size drastically. Intuition alone suggests a size between 64k and 256k, but as stated on irc yesterday its definitely worth experimenting with sizes as small as 16k.
Experimenting however would require brand new nodes, preferably in a test network but if not then _at least_ with blank datastores.
