Hi, About a month ago it was proposed to have an IRC meeting, but this never happened because various people were away, including me. I'd like to bring up this issue again.
For quite a while now, there've been topics which get started on the mailing list but never talked through properly, because I guess people see Freenet as low-priority. So I think it would be more productive if we actually dedicate a specific time slot to talk these things through. I'd be happy with having this at any time, so I'm gonna randomly go say this Thursday 7pm UTC (this is 8pm BST for us UK people). I'm going to suggest some agendas: code refactoring - the source is bloated. there used to be more contributors to freenet and there's a lot of cruft that have accumulated over the years, back from when java had next to no libraries. IMO it's time to replace some of them, which would reduce future maintenance and entry barrier for new devs. project work-time - we have one full-time coder working mainly on freenet core development. other areas are neglected, such as documentation, UI, apps (talk, search), etc. we need to address this, IMO urgently. wiki translations - we don't have any system for this. someone brought this up in the last thread, so i've included it. please add some more details. user interface - "look and feel" seems outdated, some parts are awkward to use (downloads/uploads), arguably confusing terminology, not dynamic, etc. (this is not my area, someone else can add more.)
