IMHO before 0.8.0-pre1/beta1/alpha1 we need: Freetalk working. Duh! - Depends on p0s.
The new wininstaller deployed. - It works. It needs a new update.cmd script. I will deal with this if Zero3 doesn't. Auto-backups of node.db4o. - This includes fixing the node.db4o.crypt crypto. Fix Library. - Currently we search the new and old format indexes. The old format indexes are unmaintainable, but the new format indexes generally fail during search. - We need to make some further changes to the format, in particular we need to not depend on a top block at each level of each tree. To implement the easy wins on the user interface: - Use the minimalist theme! I will post about this. - Fix some strings. - Various minor fixes proposed on the bug tracker. I would have been prepared to release 0.8.0 without the disruptive network changes mentioned in the other thread, if Freetalk had been ready and the network hadn't blown up. The network blowing up was in retrospect my fault, as usual, due to a fairly simple bug. However given the security issues, given major progress on new load management already made, the relatively good performance of the network (especially bootstrapping) at the moment, given that zidel's code is so close to merging, and given that we have funding, I do think we should proceed with new load management and merging zidel's new packet format. Given that an alpha generally needs to be feature complete and not excessively buggy, and given that it will likely be at least another few weeks before Freetalk is ready, IMHO a timetable of late January is feasible for the above. I will create a wiki page shortly.
