Do you know the Gnutella UDP Hostcaches? They are a distributed but serverbased system for getting first connections. One example: http://frostwire.wordpress.com/tag/ghostwhitecrab/ Via UDP Hostcaches, Gnutella clients exchange IPs of other clients and alternate UDP hostcaches, so the list of Hostcaches is decentralized, too.
