Okay, Stick a fork in it, she's done.  Finished optimizing and sanity
checking the PRNG, she's up to a pretty decent speed, though this is an
interesting observation:

IBM-JDK 1.1.8 (Linux)   0.158 0.139   7.97      1366016

Does the Sun/Blackdown JVM/JIT on linux suck *that bad*?   Thats
consistently 15-16 times slower. On an UltraSparc running the Sun JVM I
got similar performance as the IBM jdk.
