I finally got the stuff Scott and I have been working on during the last few weeks working (barely) so I have comitted our work to date. It's quite a bit, so don't fall out of your chairs when you do an update.
It is a change in the protocol, though I think the datastores should carry over correctly. It is still far from done, the clients are still cutting off the end of the data, and we haven't tested most of it (bad data restarts etc), but it should build and run for now. If you decided to run a daily snapshot node you made your own bed.
