For the record, I agree religiously on this issue. I can't think of a worse headache then having nodes splitting files left and right. Two things I would like to note about size limits in general (with the note that I have not read Ian's latest proposal yet): a) Bandwidth is a lot more precious then diskspace. A "no cache but pass" philosophy for big files is therefore not accomplishing that much. b) The problem is not really about inserts, where we could put the file size as a contract in the InsertRequest and then simply route around nodes that found it to big - but for Requests, where we have no option of routing around on the Reply unless the requestee knows the size of the document. The splitting suggestion (for example) will accomplish exactly nothing (and in fact hurt the topology) in the case of requests. > > Ian. > > _______________________________________________ > Freenet-dev mailing list > Freenet-dev at lists.sourceforge.net > http://lists.sourceforge.net/mailman/listinfo/freenet-dev -- \oskar _______________________________________________ Freenet-dev mailing list Freenet-dev at lists.sourceforge.net http://lists.sourceforge.net/mailman/listinfo/freenet-dev
