As far as I'm concerned, it's just a matter of convenience. If FCP looks easy to implement, or if there's a decent FCP library in the language you're working in, maybe you want to use FCP. If you're familiar with XML-RPC, or if you think it'll take less time to learn to use an XML-RPC library and our XML-RPC interface than to implement FCP, then you might want to go for XML-RPC.
