This makes some sense.  Some time ago I was advocating that this type of
functionality be provided by FCP, which can be split into three layers.
The first is bog-standard FCP, the second handles things like splitfiles
and redirects, the third layer could allow this type of thing.  I would
ask that you try to implement this kind of functionality in FCP so that
as many clients as possible can take advantage of your work.
