Perhaps it's time to finally put a mirror of the Freenet homepage onto Freenet itself? You'd need to have an earlier version of Freenet in order to update to later versions, but perhaps except for the bump when we switch to 0.4 and lose backwards-compatability that shouldn't be too big a problem for frequent users.
