Fred removes references that it fails to connect to, if it finds some other reference that does work. That means that if you make a request and then go online, the node may remove references that failed before it went online. The next major version has a more complicated way of dealing with broken links, though this could still be a problem. What I'll probably do is allow some host to be configured which the node can use to check if your Internet connection is up, and unless that host can be pinged it won't remove any references. -- 'DeCSS would be fine.
