Please note that I have no real connections to Freenet Project Inc. Also, I am
not a lawyer.

The document that was signed by developers was to give partial ownership (or
possibly complete ownership, I didn't read it carefully enough) of Freenet's
code over to the Freenet Project Inc. non-profit. You see, if the developers
had complete ownership over their code, and somebody decided to sue them, the
non-profit couldn't do anything about it because they legaly don't have any
connection to that code (imagine what would happen if there wasn't such a
protection; I could come up with some "damages" and sue people "pirating"
Microsoft Windows. The courts would be totally bogged down). By signing that
document, the non-profit does have a legal connection to the code and thus can
get involved in such cases.
