I think it might be worth modifying the first phase of the FCP protocol. Currently the client has to send 4 hex bytes while the rest of the protocol (apart from the actual data retrieved) uses cleartext. If you want to use shell programming or just netcat, this is a (minor) hassle. Sending those ids a plain strings (e.g. "0002") would make more sense (to me). I'm not for breaking 0.4, but I'd like to see some comments whether developers think that might be useful in 0.5.
Could somebody shed some light on to XML-RPC and why it didn't make it into 0.4?
