Design - The banner does indeed take up a lot of space. The current design was slapped together in two seconds just to give a basic outline. The banner size definitely won't be staying that size. Same with the grey. It's just there because its there. If you read the comments scribbled on it you will see I suggest having something similar to the gnome.org menu. Even so, I'm sure someone can come up with something better. Navigation & welcome message comments Although it is true that the list of people you mention is the kind of people that visit the sit I don't think it makes sense to organise the site around these users. Having a section titled 'explorers' comes across to me as vague. However, having a section entitled Freenet makes it pretty clear that it will contain general information regarding Freenet in it. As for people coming to the site expecting something like Napster, I think this is one of the biggest challenges of the web site is making a clear message of exactly what Freenet is. I've noticed with friends and also on forums like zeropaid that many people seem to have unreasonable expectations of what Freenet is. Many seem to dismiss it straight away because as the lack of understanding they have. The welcoming bit to the site 'What is Freenet?' should include a brief list of applications such as freesites and messageboards as well as filesharing. I think the question of how does filesharing work over Freenet and what are the advantages/disadvantages be more directly addressed as like you say quite a lot of people come here looking for. As for my choice of menu headings, wait and see. I'm pretty confident my choice of headings are more obvious and easier to figure out. A lot of things need to be tidied up. Forums - I will bair your comments in mind. The current dev list works well for discussion. I don't know if anything is in use on the sourceforge page but some way of keeping a record of people's ideas would be good so they don't get forgotten about. Tyler - I'll make sure the website is tested in Lynx ;) Tuomas - The tables were used just to stick something together. I know Alabaster is busy changing my messy work into something more proper (for lack of a better word). Other comments of the #freenet IRC channel on IIP. Make the website easy to mirror on Freenet. Give more detail as to how much donations have been collected and how it is spent.
