The problem is that if the only plausable reason for providing this 
functionality is to allow freesite authors to confirm insertion of their 
content, then even if it wasn't for the idealogical problems, it would 
be undesirable.

A much better solution would be to set up another node running on a
different port, and request via that.  This is superior, not only
because it doesn't suffer from the more theoretical problems which have
been expressed, but because it will mean that you are requesting with a
completely different set of references to those used for the insertion
(where if you only delete the relevant keys then you still have more or
less the same set of references).
