.. but only by the node itself. If there are any problems with the JRE even running freenet.jar then it would be 'nice' to send it to the log but I wouldn't say mandatory. Only because the fred runs hidden on Windows and the freenet systray app has a 'View Logfile' window is this even worth doing. For example, as far as I can tell, doing something similar under *nix would achieve little.
