The fact that it suddenly stopped working at all and started crashing reliably within minutes of starting up, after I tried to resolve it for far too long, lead me to "upgrade" to first the IBM JVM, which is not usable for development because it doesn't give stack traces in full speed mode, then finally to the Sun JVM.
