Hi. Just thought I'd pass on something I have noticed recently with the performance of freesites and frost.
Up until recently when uploading in Frost it has uploaded the whole entire file. Just recently though Jantho has added a feature in Frost where you can request files if they cannot be found in the network. Along with that feature he seems to have changed the default behaviour of uploading files. In version 021111 instead of uploading the file it instead just uploads a listing of that particular file. Now when trying to download a file listed in the search results it will start broadcasting a request for the file if it isn't found on the network. Whenever a person who happens to be online and also has the file is online that file is then uploaded and the person who requested the file can now download it. In terms of being able to download files it actually seems worse now because 1) not everyone is running Frost 24/7 and 2) this only seems to work best for small files. Although this system results in more traffic (sending requests etc). the benefit this brings is a decreased demand on the storage space of the network. I have really noticed this in the last couple of days. When looking on The Freedom Engine I have noticed a huge increase in the number of active links being successfully downloaded. What does everyone else think of this and have you experienced the same thing yourselves? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
