I believe this is a variant of the DSB.  I've seen a small amount
of used space become "empty" upon restarting a node, but never to
the extent you seem to be experiencing.

The DSB is sometimes quite silent.  I'll often restart my node, without
having seen any warnings ("block disappeared from disk"), and find that
it refuses to restart because of corruption.

Apparently something in your setup causes the DSB to manifest differently
than it does for most of us.  Rest assured, it's *not* supposed to do
this.
