We are applying for Google Summer of Code 2007. The deadline is the 12th
of March. The main problem with this is that we need, before applying:
- An ideas page
- A list of mentors
- A few bits of text for an annoying form.

We need to submit before (on?) Monday; best to do it before that,
really. But at a minimum I need a list of mentors, and some help on the
annoying bits of text would be appreciated.

1. Ideas Page

I have done some work on this. Please edit it and add more ideas!

2. List of Mentors
------------------

Anyone who wants to be a mentor please contact me. I will be a mentor
and I assume Ian also.

3. Bits of text for an annoying form
------------------------------------

"Describe your organization." - I plan to copy the first paragraph from
the What is Freenet page and the non-profit's mission statement.

"Why is your organization applying to participate in GSoC 2007? What do
you hope to gain by participating?"
We hope to be able to reward students for working with us on projects
that may not have been implemented otherwise but which enhance Freenet
significantly. On past experience we hope to retain most of our students
as capable developers after the SoC is completed.
[ we'll probably only get two students, but using "most" makes sense
here ]

"Does your organization have an application template you would like to
see students use? If so, please provide it now."
We have a borrowed template on the page above, use that.

"What criteria did you use to select these individuals as mentors?
Please be as specific as possible."
Mentors should be established and reliable members of the development
team familiar with the relevant areas who are likely to have the time to
be mentors.

"What is your plan for dealing with disappearing students?"
We will try to contact them, and if that is not possible, fail them.

"What is your plan for dealing with disappearing mentors?"
We will try to contact them, and if they have e.g. died, we will
reassign the project to another mentor.

"What steps will you take to encourage students to interact with your
project's community before, during and after the program?"
Talking to them would be a good start! All students are expected to use
either IRC, the mailing lists or Frost (internal freenet chat boards
system), and to keep their mentors up to date.

"What will you do to ensure that your accepted students stick with the
project after GSoC concludes?"
I dunno...
