Hey Nextgens,

Can you confirm that you will agree to continue to administer the
server until after the next release (assuming that we release it
roughly on the schedule we hope)? I thought this was our agreement.

I think the appropriate course of action here is for us to try to
outsource as much as possible, hopefully all of our administrative
requirements, such that in future, we don't need our own server, nor
do we need someone to administer it.

I think that there is irony in a project that embraces
decentralization in its architecture, to rely on a single individual
for its sysadmin needs. This has been the situation for some time
now, although it hasn't proved to be a visible problem because
Nextgens was willing to shoulder this burden. This has obviously now
changed.

For example, it shouldn't be necessary for us to host our own source
control when dedicated companies like github (of whom I have personal
and very positive experience) and bitbucket (whom I don't, but I hear
good things) will do it for us for free.

There are also many cheap ways to host a simple PHP website, although
we should research the best option for us.

Similarly, there are many free ways to host email and mailing lists,
Google has Gmail and Google Groups, both of which seem flexible and
reliable.

Hopefully Nextgens will stick around for long enough that our
transition to third-party provision of these various services can go
smoothly.

Ian.
