OK, now we have a linear history with only the commit data touching the `src/parquet` source tree.
The only thing slight unsatisfying about what is here is that the _committer_ (but not the author) is changed to be me. Through some more git magic this can be fixed, or by writing a script to cherry pick one commit at a time.
