Finally coming back to this; [I tried adding an SDK-side log as you suggested](https://github.com/ryan-williams/beam/commit/863f3706bac051adc07778ba7cc25c48d4795163#diff-968a6a22041ca278b1b1ed91603639d8R193), but it feels equivalently spammy to me at first glance:

I'd have said these should be DEBUGs on both ends perhaps two INFOs saying "staging X artifacts" / "staged X artifacts"?
