It seems that `[!/\]` only matches a single character in fnmatch: ```pycon >>> import fnmatch >>> fnmatch.translate(r'[!\/]') '[^\\\\/]\\Z(?ms)' ``` so having * matching anything except `/` and `\` would require abandoning fnmatch it seems.
