I am wondering about this: as we compute the byte-size later, and already pay the cost to serialize the record, should we not store `byte[]/byte[]` in the buffer? Of course, still will imply that we need to deserialize later, however, the keeping the actual deserialized objects around would haver more storage overhead and would not obey the buffer size IMHO. Thoughts?
