@wykapedia Thanks a lot for the PR. The Jira is marked as "needs-kip" (cf. https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/KAFKA/Kafka+Improvement+Proposals). As long as there is no approved KIP, we cannot merge this PR.
Btw: I expect the KIP discussion to be long. This ides was discussed in the past already and the community had quite different opinions about this.
