Hi,

One thing you could do is use the xwiki notification feature (I don't  
have a link handy for this and it needs to be documented on xwiki.org,  
however searching the mailing list on xwiki.markmail.org should yield  
some results). It allows catching a document before or after it's  
saved for example.

The other solution is, as you say to use the XWiki stats plugin.
