It's the way to go. I've added some comments in the page.
It seems to me we are missing a {text} macro (or some other name) to not
have any syntax at all just plain text.
Maybe that's the same as {html} but the name is weird if it's not HTML.
Same with {xml}
Maybe we could use:
{text:xml=true|wiki=true|velocity=true|groovy=true}
