No, it is a great idea, and I've tried to find time to write a Default servlet. The ones from Tomcat and Jetty seemed to have too many dependencies on the rest of the container, so they were not a good place to start. If you think that the one from myfaces is easy to "steal", as you said in your email, then please go ahead and make it ready for XWiki. As for hiding templates, I think that a better way would be to make the location of the templates directory customizable, and be able to put it in WEB-INF/templates altogether (not just a macros file). Someone still has to do a complete review of the mail patch, I only had time for a quick review.
