Hi

The problem was precisely that I had not correctly configured settings.xml
which I have now done and XWiki built. The only problem is that there is
still an unresolved dependency. I get the following message:

Failed to resolve artifact.

Missing:
----------
1) org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-legacy:jar:3.2-SNAPSHOT

Try downloading the file manually from the project website.

Then, install it using the command:
      mvn install:install-file -DgroupId=org.xwiki.platform
-DartifactId=xwiki-platform-legacy -Dversion=3.2-20110810.083525-142
-Dpackaging=jar -Dfile=/path/to/file

Alternatively, if you host your own repository you can deploy the file there:
      mvn deploy:deploy-file -DgroupId=org.xwiki.platform
-DartifactId=xwiki-platform-legacy -Dversion=3.2-20110810.083525-142
-Dpackaging=jar -Dfile=/path/to/file -Durl=[url] -DrepositoryId=[id]

  Path to dependency:
        1) org.xwiki.enterprise:xwiki-enterprise-web:war:3.2-SNAPSHOT
        2) org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-legacy:jar:3.2-SNAPSHOT

----------
1 required artifact is missing.

for artifact:
  org.xwiki.enterprise:xwiki-enterprise-web:war:3.2-SNAPSHOT

from the specified remote repositories:
  central (http://repo1.maven.org/maven2),
  xwiki-externals (http://maven.xwiki.org/externals),
  smartgwt-maven (http://www.smartclient.com/maven2),
  xwiki-snapshots (http://maven.xwiki.org/snapshots),
  xwiki-releases (http://maven.xwiki.org/releases)

I synchronized my Github fork and did a fresh clone today so unless I'm
missing something I don't think it's a synchronization problem as previously
suggested. Any help on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all so much for the help
