There's no notion of core extension ATM. Extensions are a flat namespaces and they can depend on each other. It only depends on what you want to build. For example for some product having annotation is a must have, for some other having a DB storage is a must have, for others they may not need DB storage at all and in memory is enough, etc. It's very difficult to define what's core. IMO the only core thing for being a runtime platform is the EM itself (and thus what is required by the EM to run). But we're getting further from this thread's purpose :) Right now I don't see the need the defining a core. If you think there's such a need we should start a new thread.
