this is often characterized as a Hibernate problem.
For i2geo.net we use:
-XX:+CMSClassUnloadingEnabled -XX:MaxPermSize=256m
(on a MacOSX).
I think this helps.
CMSClassUnloadingEnabled has a different name in earlier java VMs
(permgensweep?).
