Same experience here. Then I tried IDEA and it was unusable on my machine due
to cursor lagging behind my typing. Both of these applications took a 
significant
amount of time to get running and configure for XWiki which is why I wrote the
vague message about my concern over XWiki dev environment learning curve.

This might be because I was new to IDEs and others might find that importing 
XWiki
is trivial and quick, I don't know but I think it warrants attention.
